Bring The Cycle to Life

The cattle lifecycle in Southern Australia begins with the birth of calves during the winter and spring months (July-September). As spring and summer fall (October-December), calves are weaned from their mothers to become "weaners," grazing solely on grass.

As they mature into "yearlings" from January onwards, their development path diverges based on their end market. Upon reaching their target weight, cattle are sold to feedlots where they consume grain-based rations. In 2021, nearly three million cattle entered this system in Australia.

Cattle not destined for feedlots continue to graze on grass until they are ready for processing. The breeding cycle itself renews when female heifers, at two years of age, are joined with bulls to conceive, perpetuating the lifecycle.
